Melissa & Jarrad's Black Brewing Co Wedding

Melissa and Jarrad both have a great sense of humour. As a little wedding gift to Jarrad, Melissa got her face printed on his wedding jocks! Not to be outdone, Jarrad wrote a note to Melissa on the inside lid of her shoe box and enclosed a stunning polaroid of himself ;)

Needless to say after starting out the day this way their wedding day was full of laughter! The speeches bought the house down and there was shapes being cut all over the dance-floor!

Clive & Diana ~ Evedon Park Wedding Photographer

Sometimes you just want to marry the one you love without all the fuss of a huge wedding. Clive and Diana had a beautifully simple pop up wedding at Evedon Park with their closest family and friends there to share it with them, and it was a gorgeous joy-filled day.

But even when you’re keeping things simple you still want amazing memories to look back on, so they booked us to meet them after their Pop Up ceremony and spend an hour capturing some special moments with their Bridal Party.

We know wedding days are unique and even if you’re not doing the traditional wedding, we’re happy to be there to capture your day!

Danelle & Brenton's Aravina Estate Wedding, Margaret River

Brenton and Danelle met in primary school, but it wasn't until a bad seating plan at high school where they were thrown together in class that Brenton's charm won Danelle over, and the rest they say, is history. This pair were made for each other. Eleven years together and still looking at each other like the everlasting light in each others lives.

Their wedding was an elegant classic, and we had fun with the bridal party who just enjoyed each other's company all day. The guys in the crew were such gentlemen they even helped me off a post when I decided I needed to climb it for a shot! ;-)

Danelle looked absolutely stunning in her custom made Raffinato Bridal dress, which had beautiful lace detailing on the bodice, and Brenton scrubbed up perfectly in his classy suit.

The pair DIYed their reception styling with inspiration from Pinterest...and a beautiful venue like Aravina Estate doesn't need much work anyway...so it all came together beautifully!

Teagan & Stephen's Black Brewing Co. Wedding, Margaret River

The first word that springs to mind when I think about Teagan and Stephen's wedding is fun. This pair were so laid back and happy, and their friends too, that we just had a fantastic day full of silliness, laughter and, well, fun!

We were loving the colours of the day, the burgundy and greenery just looked amazing and the styling was beautiful. We also loved Teagan's cape - stunning!

Theirs was one of the best receptions we've been to ever, everyone was up on the dance floor just having a great time and celebrating the occasion, without a care in the world.

Congratulations to the happy couple, what a great day!

Lisa & Sam's pearl river houses Wedding margaret river

Lisa & Sam's Margaret River wedding was a lovely relaxed day with family and friends. With everything in one place, they could get ready while they watched the ceremony and marquee take shape, and just enjoy the beautiful day.

When your grandad owns a retired racehorse it would be rude to not include him in the celebration too, so Lisa rode in on horseback much to all the guests delight, and we of course took a little time out for some photos with Tommy too.

After they said their I Do's we made our way to the beach for photos with the Kombi Van that the pair had been so excited about, and had a great afternoon with them and their friends before heading back to Pearl River Houses to watch an impressive first dance and listen to some gorgeous speeches, before leaving everyone to party the night away.

Leah & Dimitry's Aravina Estate Wedding Margaret River

Leah and Dimitriy's wedding was an elegant day, starting off with preparations for the girls at the gorgeous Yallingup Luxury Retreat.  It has been a little while since we'd photographed a church ceremony, but St Thomas More Margaret River was the perfect backdrop for this lovely couple.

After the formals were done we took a drive up to Canal Rocks and I was super impressed with Leah and Dimitriy's total willingness to climb rocks and clamber around to make the most of the beautiful landscape and get "the shot". It's not always easy in a wedding dress but we love adventurous couples and it's always worth doing something a little different!

It was fun hanging out with a smaller group, with Leah's sister and Dimitiry's brother making up the bridal party...just a cruisy afternoon spending time with people who were totally relaxed and at ease in each other's (and my) company :-)

The reception was at Aravina Estate, where we shoot regularly and completely love, so we had some fun in the vines and paddocks before heading in to party the night away. Of course our photobooth was looking completely amazing too and definitely helped add to the fun!

Congratulations Leah and Dimitriy, we wish you a lifetime of happiness in each other's arms.

Sam & Peter ~ Aravina Estate Wedding Margaret River

Sam & Pete's Big Day lived up to all expectations and was a beautifully soft, romantic, and fun day.

One of the highlights of the day for us was capturing the ladies getting ready at Smith's Beach Resort, where Sam revealed her designer Ae'lkemi dress to her bridesmaids for the first time. Sam decided that because her favourite part of a wedding is seeing the bride, she wanted it to be a surprise kept for the Big Day, and it really was a lovely moment when everyone saw her in it!

Of course the special day had so many other amazing moments as well as a lot of laughter (especially when there were a few little name blunders during the ceremony ;-)), and Sam & Pete's Bridal Party proved that even strangers can behave like old friends and helped make the occasion a great day that we were honoured to be invited to be part of.

Thank you all for making the day so much fun, now we'll leave it to our photos to tell the rest of the story. Enjoy the memories!

Xx

Imogen & Paul ~ A Chandelier's on Abbey Wedding, Margaret River

We love it when couples celebrate their personalities in the styling of their Big Day. From the Harry Potter books in wooden crates to the fireman helmet nestled on top, Imogen and Paul added so many gorgeous little touches to make their wedding uniquely "them". We especially loved the cute figurines on the wedding cake and the choice of cars... Paul loves old classics, Imogen loves Kombis, so instead of one winning out over the other, they just had both. Down South Luxury Limo's chevy and Kape Kombi's van were a pretty unusual pair, but they looked cute together and we just loved what it said about our gorgeous couple, celebrating their differences...after all isn't that what a happy life together is all about?!

Chandelier's on Abbey provided a beautiful backdrop for the day, it looked amazing and Carleton couldn't have been any more helpful in making sure everything was perfect. We wouldn't have needed to go anywhere else all day, but being in Margaret River Imogen and Paul asked for some photos in the vines, so the team at Windows Estate very generously let us pop down the road to spend a little time there before the party back at Chandelier's, which finished off the day perfectly.

Congratulations Mr and Mrs Roberts, thank you for choosing us to capture your special day. We left feeling very lucky to have such lovely people as our clients :-)

Top 5 Tips for the Perfect Wedding Photos!

It's your Big Day. You're going to A LOT of trouble to make it completely perfect and you want to remember it that way. That's why your photos are SO important!

We have spent years photographing weddings just about every weekend, and we know a thing or two about how to make your day look as amazing as can be, so here are 5 top tips from us to help you plan your day to achieve perfect wedding photos...

1. Think about the light

Photography is all about light and the timings you choose for your Big Day will have a huge impact on how your images will look. Choose appropriate timings for the time of year bearing in mind seasonal weather variations. If you have your heart set on an image of you and your love in front of a romantic sunset then choose to have your wedding at a time of year that allows it, make sure you start your reception late enough, or be prepared to take five from your party to go out and get the shot. While a lunch time event might seem appealing the light in the middle of the day is not so flattering, so be aware that you won't achieve the beautiful golden light that makes you and the landscape look so amazing. If in doubt just ask your photographer - experienced pros like us know the options and will be only too happy to help you plan your day to achieve the look you want.

2. Book a Quality Photographer

There are so many photographers around these days that choosing one to capture your day can be a difficult task. Weddings aren't cheap so we understand it can be tempting to save a few dollars and just get Uncle Bob to take some photos or take a chance on the cheap photographer you found on Facebook, but the old adage "you get what you pay for" definitely applies here, and we have heard too many stories of regret to believe it's ok to just let someone with a fancy camera document your day.  If you want to be able to look back on your day in years to come and remember it as the perfect, joyful day that it is bound to be, then choose the best photographer you can afford. Choose a pro who you can trust to have the talent and experience to know the best places to shoot at the right times, who can find your best angles and show off how gorgeous you are in that dress, and who will be fun to spend the day with. That's the only way to guarantee no regrets!

3. Be Good to Yourself

Choose a dress that suits your shape and fits you well, and style your hair and makeup so that you feel comfortable and still look like "you". Take a close friend you can rely on for an honest opinion to the dress shops with you, and don't get hung up on buying a tiny size that you have to spend a year dieting for. If you've worn too many bikini styles while sunbathing over the years, get an all over natural tan before your Big Day to get rid of any unsightly strap marks. If you have any tattoos or markings that you're no longer fond of, choose a dress that covers them up, or if you have ones you're proud of then show them off! On the day just be confident in your own skin and rock your look, your photographer will do the rest!

4. Have an engagement portrait shoot

Engagement Sessions are a great way to practice in front of the camera and get to know your photographer before the Big Day. You can check out the locations you are considering for your wedding photos and just get used to being together as the centre of attention. Having an engagement shoot will mean you feel more relaxed on the day and be more familiar with your photographer so that it feels more like a friend is there with you who you know will capture great images for you. If, like we do, you have a planning meeting with your photographer before the wedding you can let them know what you loved or what you weren't so fond of in the shoot. That way your photographer can make sure everything is perfect on your Big Day.

5. Allow enough time

Plan with your photographer and let them know what you want to capture on your day. A good pro will know what is realistic and plan with you to make the most of your day. We know that it can seem like there is always plenty of time for photos, but with years of shooting weddings under our belt we know that things on a wedding day often take longer than you think they will, and the last thing you want to be doing on your day is stressing about not being able to fit everything you wanted in. Your wedding day is a celebration and you should enjoy every moment of it, so spend the time with your photographer beforehand to make a plan, and then just relax and let them do their job on the day.
