Brigitte & Peter ~ Old Broadwater Farm Busselton Wedding

Sometimes inexplicable things happen on a wedding day that you can't plan for and you may not even fully understand at the time, but you just know it's something special and you have to capture it.

During their ceremony Brigitte's mum organised a surprise for her and Peter, and gave them a box to open up. When the lid opened, a handful of monarch butterflies slowly made their way out and then flew away into the bush surrounding Old Broadwater Farm... all but one. One butterfly fluttered around the bride and groom and then rested itself on the arbour above them until the nuptials were over. In the moment it was a lovely thing to happen, and everyone enjoyed watching the beautiful butterfly. Then as the day went on we noticed there were monarch butterflies featured in the reception styling too.

Later on in the day, while I was photographing a collection of photo frames with pictures of loved ones who had passed away and so couldn't be at the wedding, I noticed one was of a young boy. At that moment a lovely lady came up to me and told me it was her son, Brigitte's cousin. She told me that they released monarch butterflies at his funeral, and that the one lingering butterfly at the wedding ceremony had made her think of him, and the fact that maybe he was there with them all at the wedding.

Isn't the universe amazing, creating such powerful symbols out of such simple things. We just have to keep our hearts and minds open enough to see them.

Other things we learned at this wedding - Eagle Rock requires dancing with your pants around your ankles, and there's a whole set dance routine to get stuck into when Nutbush starts playing ;-)

Thanks for a lovely day Peter & Brigitte, it was an honour to be there to share it with you.

Angie & Scott ~ Abbey Beach Resort Wedding Busselton

The lead up to Angie & Scott's wedding day was a little different from most because they live in Geraldton and just had the spontaneous idea to get married while they were on holiday, so we had done all our planning together over the phone and internet (isn't technology just wonderful these days ;-)). They had planned an intimate ceremony in the early afternoon at Abbey Beach Resort, with  closest family and friends there to share their day, some time for photos and then a nice dinner at the resort. When the wedding came around it turned out to be a beautifully hot February day and the whole event was the relaxed, joyful occasion it was meant to be :-)

Renae & Luke ~ An Abbey Beach Resort Busselton Wedding

Renae and Luke's wedding was a classically romantic (if a little chillier than expected mid October) day. The floral ceremony styled by Liz at Bouquet of Love looked absolutely stunning, and the whites and soft pinks complimented the bridesmaid dresses and classy feel of the day perfectly. Set up inside Abbey Beach Resort's atrium the floral arbour and accessories shone against the dreamy white backlight, and the soft, classy look was carried on throughout the day with Wez Enterprises doing an amazing job of bringing the resort's grand ballroom to life for the reception, and the floral centrepieces put together by Renae's friend were just beautiful too.

We love that weddings these days allow couples to add so many personal touches to the occasion, and it was really special that Renae attached her Nonna's ring to her bouquet so she could be with her walking down the aisle too.

The ceremony went perfectly and before you knew it Luke and Renae were husband and wife, so after some time for family photos we whisked them off with their bridal party for photos in the local iconic Busselton scenery. Time with the bridal party is always so much fun because the nerves are gone and everyone just lets their hair down and enjoys themselves. We had some real characters to hang out with at this wedding and had a great afternoon.

Back at the reception everyone was in the mood to party and it was so much fun to hear all the stories shared in the speeches and to watch everyone get into the awesome Paparazzi Photobooth and kick up their heels on the dance floor.

Thanks so much for sharing your special day with us, it was an honour and a privilige to be there and get to know you all over the last year.

Enjoy the memories x

Aneta & Brett's Winter Wedding

Sometimes people just sparkle, like our gorgeous bride Aneta. We met Aneta and Brett at the Ferguson Valley Wedding tour just over a year before their Big Day, and over the coming months we had the pleasure of getting to know them and their beautiful children Thomas and Emilia through lots of catch ups and a very family oriented engagement shoot that included creating a film for them (where we got to find out what really makes them tick). By the time the wedding came around we already felt like we were sharing a special day with friends, and we knew it was going to be a fun celebration.

Being at the start of August, their wedding was always at risk of getting a little rain, but thankfully we planned for the possibility and Aneta went out and bought super cute gumboots for her bridesmaids while we supplied some umbrellas for fun out in the rain at the bridal party shoot!

The ceremony was moved indoors to the lovely atrium at Abbey Beach Resort, which is a great undercover option when the weather isn't so wonderful. The ceremony was just gorgeous with Brett getting teary as he saw Aneta walking down the aisle, and there were some funny little personal additions to the vows... we never knew Brett was such a lover of spinach ;-)

Once the pair were husband and wife the skies cleared and we were super lucky to get some lovely sunshine out on the bridal party shoot in the Tuarts. The whole bridal party had a great time and got stuck in, giving us some of our funniest wedding memories in recent history with their efforts. The vision of Aneta's bridesmaids throwing her veil up in the air then ducking behind a log so we could get "the shot" still makes us giggle ;-)

We're sure their good mood was helped hugely by the way the team at Down South Luxury Limousines looked after them - what a five star service those guys give!

Back at the reception the grand ballroom look fantastic, and coupled with some great tunes by Rock'n'Roo DJ and our photobooth full of props everyone was ready to party. That night we saw some of the funniest guest dancing on record, and it was really great to see such a wonderful celebration, complete with Polish tradition and Australian humour.

Congratulations Brett and Aneta, thank you for sharing your day with us. We look forward to many more memories to come!

Carli & Shae's Ocean Inspired Wedding @ Aqua Resort Busselton

We knew Carli and Shae's wedding was going to be a cool day. This pair from Dongara have travelled all over the world and have an ongoing love affair with the ocean, so it was perfectly fitting for them to have a destination wedding on the beach. They picked an awesome spot for it too, with Aqua Resort Busselton providing a gorgeous backdrop to a beautiful day.

Getting ready, Shae was a picture of laid back relaxation, while Carly prepared with a bit more nervous excitement. For the ceremony Shae respected his Maori heritage by wearing a tribal cloak, and the emotion was almost overwhelming as they said their vows and became husband and wife.

Before the reception we whisked the bridal party off to the Tuart Forest and Busselton jetty to have some fun with their photoshoot, before heading back to the beautifully styled marquee in the gardens at Aqua to celebrate into the night.

Daring to be a bit different, these two lovebirds swapped their engagement portrait for a Trash the Dress session after the wedding, which they chose to do underwater!

You can check out that experience HERE, but in the meantime enjoy the photography we captured at their beautiful wedding. Thanks for sharing your day with us Carli and Shae we loved being there to celebrate with you all!

Underwater Trash the Dress Shoot!

A couple of months ago we did something a little different and headed down to Busselton jetty for an underwater trash the dress session!

Living in Dongara and being passionate about the ocean, Carli & Shae asked us if they could swap the engagement session included in their wedding package with a post wedding underwater shoot. Never ones to shy away from a challenge we said yes, and so a few days after their beautiful March wedding at Aqua resort Jo and Bianca met them at the end of Busselton jetty for some experimental fun.

The shoot took a lot of planning and of course safety was of paramount importance, but it was well worth the effort and the experience is something that we will all remember for a long time!

You can check out how we went about it and what Carli had to say in this very cool feature on one of our favourite wedding blogsites, Coast to Country Weddings:

Enjoy!
